California man sentenced, ordered to pay $1.5 million for healthcare fraud

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – A Martinez man has been sentenced following a case regarding healthcare fraud.

32-year-old Jonathan Duane Austin is sentenced to 30 months in federal prison and has been ordered to pay $1,473,377.51 in restitution for defrauding government healthcare and disability programs.

A statement released by District Attorney Bobby Christine reveals that Austin admitted to defrauding Medicare and Tricare for nearly three years by submitting false claims for prescription reimbursements totaling $1,450,000.

The statement says that he also defrauded Social Security by forging documents, falsely claiming disability status.
