HOUSTON — The leader of the company at the center of Texas’s contracting scandal on Friday defended her firm and explained its recent controversial political donations but declined to provide specifics about the value it gave the state.
CEO Irene Williams said that Austin technology company 21CT should be celebrated as a Texas small business and embodiment of the American dream, but instead has been “caught in the middle” of a situation caused by a no-bid process it did not control.
“We went through that process exactly as it was laid out by (the state),” Williams said. “We abided by that process to a T.”
