Chairman Raymond holds hearing on status of HHSC Office of Inspector General

AUSTIN, TEXAS (Texas House of Representatives) – After Speaker Straus released committee assignments last Wednesday, Rep. Richard Peña Raymond, Chairman of the House Committee on Human Services, began work with his nine member committee setting the first hearing date for Monday.

Chairman Raymond will organize the Human Services Committee and hear invited testimony from Acting Deputy Inspector General (HHSC) Col. Quinton Arnold. The hearing can be viewed online HERE.

“We need to make sure members are fully informed on the status of the Office of Inspector General, so that we know where things stand, as we move forward with reforming the office,” said Chairman Raymond.

During the interim, the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) underwent special review by the high-profile Texas Sunset Advisory Commission, which Chairman Raymond sits on. Chairman Raymond and his colleagues on the Commission studied the current system used to investigate fraud in healthcare provider claims and made recommendations for fundamental changes to their operations, which have come under heavy criticism.
