At the same time that Texas lawmakers are calling for more transparency at the state’s sprawling Health and Human Services Commission, officials there effectively have blocked the flow of public records that could provide answers to questions surrounding an unfolding contract scandal.
Officials at the health agency — currently the subject of inquiries by the FBI and others for its dealings with an Austin tech company — have broadly denied public records requests filed over several months by the American-Statesman and other news outlets under the Texas Public Information Act.
