We want to remind Medicaid dentists that DentaQuest is starting a new protocol on February 1 for reviewing restorations done on the same tooth within 36 months. This includes prior authorization along with other criteria detailed below in a copy of the letter sent out to dentists in December.
Codes that are affected are D2140, D2150, D2160, D2161, D2330, D2331, D2332, D2335, D2391, D2392, D2393, and D2394.
We have already heard concerns about the increased time and difficulty this may cause in treating a patient with an emergency situation with the same tooth.
