Employee firing could jeopardize state Medicaid fraud cases – Houston Chronicle

AUSTIN – The Texas Rangers have opened a criminal investigation into a recently fired state employee whose alleged falsification data could cost the state the chance to recoup millions of dollars from dentists and orthodontists of Medicaid fraud, officials confirmed this week.

Former state actuary Brad Nelson admitted to his boss that he falsified data used to determine the extent of alleged fraud by an Austin dentist and also copied sensitive state data onto his personal computer, according to a human resources letter documenting his July 25 firing.
