WHITE PLAINS – A 57-year-old former healthcare firm executive has been convicted in a scheme to steal $4 million from the company.
Shawn Rains of Le Bouscat, France, faces a maximum statutory prison term of 20 years on jury convictions of conspiracy to commit mail fraud, mail fraud, and conspiracy to commit money laundering. Any prison term will be decided by U.S. District Court Judge Nelson Roman. Rains’ sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 31.
A federal jury convicted Rains on Friday following a two-week trial at the U.S. District Court Courthouse. His co-conspirator, Joseph Maharaj, 42, of Goldens Bridge had pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit mail fraud on March 22. His sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 4 by Romain.
