Two remaining defendants in a $36 million fraud scheme have admitted to taking part in the collection of unnecessary lab tests of saliva and urine that were billed to the U.S. military’s health care system, according to plea documents.
Jody Sheffield and Erik Bugen, of Travis County, filed court papers last week agreeing to plead guilty to conspiracy to commit health care fraud.
A judge will have to formally accept the pleas before they become official. Bugen’s attorney on Tuesday declined to comment. Sheffield’s attorney could not be reached.
