Houston hospital manager sentenced in Medicare fraud case 

The consequence for involvement in the $116 million fraudulent Medicare billing scheme at Riverside General Hospital promises to be steep – the equivalent of a death sentence – for the oldest of a dozen defendants who were convicted at trial or have pleaded guilty.

Mohammad Khan, 65, was the first to be arrested and, on Thursday, became the first sentenced.Two weeks after federal agents apprehended him in February 2012, he cut what was supposed to be a deal with the U.S. Justice Department’s health-care fraud prosecutors.
