Last month, TDMR was told that Inspector General Sylvia Hernandez Kauffman was going to be leaving OIG sometime in September.
Today, we received confirmation from an OIG spokesperson that Ms. Hernandez Kauffman will be leaving the position on October 2. There is no named replacement at this time.
To quote from her bio on the OIG website, she "was appointed to this position in 2018 by Texas Governor Greg Abbott. During her leadership, the OIG has reported record recoveries, expanded the uses of sophisticated data analytics and focused on preventing fraud, waste and abuse from happening in the first place. She previously served as Principal Deputy Inspector General. As Deputy Inspector General for Data and Technology, she guided the development and oversight of the OIG's fraud analytic strategy."

This is a large negative step for Medicaid Reform and we probably need to circle the wagons and get more representation at the state level.
