The chief of staff for Jack Stick, the former top Texas health official at the center of a criminal inquiry over his handling of a medicaid fraud contract, saw his salary more than double in three years, to $112,000.
Cody Cazares was placed on paid administrative leave last month because of his role with the contract and on Thursday he was demoted and his pay slashed, the American-Statesman has learned.
“After (Stick) resigned last month, we reviewed the actual duties and responsibilities of the position and determined it should have a lower classification and salary,” Commission spokeswoman Linda Gockel Edwards said in a statement.
