OIG prepares for statute transition

In accordance with House Bill 4611, provisions of Texas Government Code Chapter 531 related to the Office of Inspector General will be transferred to Texas Government Code Chapter 544.

The change was mandated by the legislature as part of an ongoing statutory revision program that requires the Texas Legislative Council to provide non-substantive updates that clarify and simplify statutes to make them more accessible.

The transition requires impacted Texas Health and Human Services agencies and partner organizations to update documents and communications to accurately reflect Texas Government Code, Chapter 544. The change takes effect on April 1, 2025, at which time the old statute, Chapter 531, Subchapter C, will be repealed. All letters, memoranda, and other guidance remain in effect while the OIG updates outdated references.

The OIG has published a crosswalk on its website to help stakeholders locate updated statutory references.
