We recently received a copy of a presentation to the House Appropriations Committee done by Cecile Young, the Executive Commissioner of Texas Health and Human Services. The presentation outlines the current scope of HHS and contains more than a few interesting facts about Medicaid in Texas.
These facts include:
15% of Texans are covered by Medicaid, some 4.3 million
53% of Texas births are covered by Medicaid
43% of Texas children are on Medicaid or CHIP
62% of nursing home residents are covered by Medicaid
The Medicaid caseload grew from 4,240,968 pre-COVID 19 to 4,858,356 last December
Managed care through increased enrollment and preventative care keeps Texas Medicaid costs 13 points lower than the national average
