Texas children lag behind their peers across the country in educational opportunities, access to health care and financial secruity, according to a report released Thursday.
Ahead of the 2019 legislative session, the “State of Texas Children” report, compiled by the Center for Public Policy Priorities, recommends ways to close gaps in children’s opportunities based on race, ethnicity, gender and class.
The Austin-based left-leaning advocacy group laid out a set of priorities using the Kids Count Data Center’s annual report last summer, funded by the Annie E. Casey Foundation, which ranked Texas 43rd among states in child well-being.
