EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — Students from the Socorro Independent School District will join dental professionals from the Borderland community for a free dental services workshop at Socorro High School on Friday and Saturday.
Students from Socorro ISD’s Dental Health Professions Academy will join the El Paso District Dental Society in providing free dental services to roughly 800 Borderland residents at Socorro High School on Friday and Saturday.
According to Barbara Wright, an assistant teacher with the Health Professions Academy, the dental clinic benefits both the students and the low-income residents who otherwise wouldn’t have the resources to get a regular dental check-up.
“The students are able to have that opportunity to help and actually see the whole industry, what we do,” said Wright. “And for those in the community who aren’t able to get dental care.”
The initiative is happening in conjunction with a statewide mobile clinic called the Texas Mission of Mercy, and aims to underscore the importance of good dental hygiene, SISD said in a statement.
