Texas health commission to launch ‘integrity initiative’

SAN ANTONIO — The Texas health commission soon will begin a new project to fight waste, fraud and abuse in the state Medicaid program, a year after another anti-fraud effort fell apart in scandal.

The “integrity initiative,” to be launched later this year by the Office of Inspector General at the Texas Health and Human Services Commission, will encourage Medicaid providers to report issues to the state.

“I’m eager to work with you all in addressing this conundrum and getting the best Medicaid system we can have, and we’re Texas, so why not the best in the country,” Inspector General Stuart Bowen told a group of health insurance executives here Tuesday.
