The Texas Senate quickly passed its version of the state’s roughly $336 billion proposed budget, which would fund the operations of the state government through 2027.
Senate Bill 1, the upper chamber’s version of the biennial budget, passed unanimously Tuesday afternoon after about two hours of deliberation. The move sets the stage for budget negotiations with the House on contentious issues like school vouchers and property tax reform.
The Senate’s budget, which includes $153.5 billion in general revenue funding, underwrites a wide array of existing and new state programs with significant investments in education, infrastructure, tax relief, and more amid a historic fiscal surplus.
