Members of the Texas Senate will likely propose significant additions to a bill introduced this week on agency contracting now pending before the Senate Finance Committee.
Sen. Jane Nelson, R-Flower Mound, introduced Senate Bill 20 to address what she called “gaping holes” in state agency contracts. Those holes were discovered after revelations surfaced around Austin-based 21CT’s no-bid contract to look for Medicaid fraud on behalf of the Texas Health and Human Services Commission. A number of top agency officials resigned in the wake of media exposure about the bidding on that contract, including Jack Stick, the Health and Human Services Commission’s top lawyer.
