Under investigation and on the ballot, Sen. Charles Schwertner avoids spotlight

Zach Zezulka, a libertarian who lives in Williamson County, last week walked out of the early voting polling place at the Georgetown Parks & Recreation building proud to have cast ballots for candidates who will support President Donald Trump’s agenda. But Zezulka said he wasn’t sure whether he would grow to regret his vote for state Sen. Charles Schwertner, the conservative Republican from Georgetown running for re-election while being investigated by the University of Texas for allegedly sending a sexually explicit text message and image to a graduate student.

“If he did it, it matters, and I definitely wouldn’t stand behind him,” said Zezulka, 38, who manages a garden store. Still, Zezulka said, he voted for Schwertner because he doesn’t want to hold the accusations against him until more facts came out.
